The GATS restaurant, located in the heart of Ciutat Vella and part of the Tragaluz Group, is a project in which wood defines the character of the space. In this case, the use of reclaimed timber adds texture, history and cohesion to the overall design.

At Moskito Parquets, we supplied reclaimed oak beams, used both on the restaurant’s ceiling and in a unique feature in the toilets, where the wood has been transformed into a washbasin top.

Project: GATS Restaurant, Tragaluz Group
Product: Moskito reclaimed oak beams
Design: Toni Espuch (Azul Tierra)

The restaurant’s main dining area is defined by a series of reclaimed oak beams running across the ceiling, lending depth and a distinctive visual identity to the space.
The reclaimed timber retains all its original imperfections: knots, cracks, signs of ageing and a natural patina that is difficult to replicate with new materials.

Combined with materials such as exposed concrete, iron and neutral surfaces, these beams:

  • Bring warmth to a contemporary setting
  • Introduce texture and contrast
  • Reinforce a sophisticated industrial aesthetic

This type of intervention allows the space to be visually structured without overloading it, maintaining a carefully crafted balance between the technical and the visual.

A unique worktop made from reclaimed oak beams

One of the most interesting features of the project can be found in the bathrooms, where old reclaimed oak beams have been repurposed as a washbasin countertop.
The piece is combined with a stone washbasin, creating an ensemble that conveys:

  • Solidity and authenticity
  • Material continuity with the rest of the space
  • A balance between the rustic and the contemporary

Solutions of this kind reinforce the project’s narrative: the wood is not merely decorative, but an element with an architectural function.

Reclaimed timber: an ideal solution for restoration projects

Reclaimed timber beams allow you to work with large-format pieces that retain structural stability and a strong aesthetic character.
In restoration and hospitality projects, its use is particularly appealing because:

  • It brings real history and authenticity
  • It reduces environmental impact through reuse
  • It allows you to create spaces with their own identity
  • It suits both rustic and contemporary styles

At Moskito, we regularly work with this type of material for projects that aim to stand out from the outset.

Interior design by Azul Tierra

The design of the GATS restaurant is the work of Toni Espuch, founder of Azul Tierra, and is based on the following principles:

  • Natural materials
  • Pieces with architectural weight
  • Spaces with an emotional identity

The incorporation of reclaimed oak beams from Moskito fits perfectly into this concept, reinforcing the material coherence of the whole and lending the space an authentic feel.
