Combining different parquets? A great success in this modern and cozy house.
In the heart of the Tres Torres neighborhood, one of the most sought-after areas of Barcelona, we find this beautiful two-storey home, designed to combine modern style with a rustic feel. All with the aim of presenting a cozy and warm house, perfect for becoming a haven of peace and tranquility in the heart of the city center.
The interior design studio in charge of the project had it very clear, wood had to be the clear protagonist. On walls, furniture, accessories and, above all, on the floors. For this, they decided to go for Moskito parquets. And, yes, parquets in plural, as they chose two floor models, on the one hand, the XXL parquet in brown smoked oak and, on the other, a reclaimed parquet, with its elegant veins and knots.

Combining different parquet floors for a surprising effect
The choice to combine different floors always must have a reason. It is not just an aesthetic decision, but often has functional advantages as well. We often come across houses where wooden floors are combined with tiled floors (especially in bathrooms and kitchens). But combining two wooden floors with different looks is a very good option if we don’t want to give up the warmth of this material and furniture in different styles.

Recovered wood parquet
Before going into the specific characteristics of this project, we will detail the scenarios where combining disparate floors is a very good idea:
1.- ZONING OPEN SPACES: By open spaces we mean loft-style or open-concept flats, where the rooms are not delimited by walls. In this type of home, it is very important to indirectly zone the different corners and a very original way of doing this is by changing the flooring. For example, if we have a kitchen that is open to the living room, we can choose a different parquet floor for each area to separate them visually. Another option could also be to change the way it is installed, i.e. combine chevron parquet with a regular pattern parquet.
2.- ORIGINAL FLOORS: When we find homes that keep the original floor, it is not always in perfect condition, and we often must complete it with new flooring. In this case, the combination of two materials is the best solution to avoid losing the original floor.
3.- CARPET EFFECT: If carpets are not your thing, but you still consider that they have a necessary delimiting function, combining two types of flooring will be your best option. An example would be to choose one type of floor for the sofa and coffee table area – where you would normally place a carpet – and another for the rest of the living room.
We return to Doctor Roux Street, in the heart of the Tres Torres district, and this wonderful duplex. Here we have opted for a decoration inspired by New York lofts – with their metal and open spaces – and rustic country houses, where the use of wood predominates in practically every corner. This fusion of styles has created a house that is perfect for a modern, urban pace of life, while at the same time creating a cozy refuge in which to disconnect from the outside world and find moments of relaxation.
At the same time, the choice of parquet flooring has a lot to do with this duality. The two types of flooring correspond to each of the predominant decorative styles in the home. On the one hand, there is with the XXL parquet in brown smoked oak very wide planks, modern, minimalist, and elegant; on the other hand, a reclaimed wood parquet was chosen, representing the more rustic and original style.
On the ground floor and in the common areas, wide-slat parquet has been used, ideal for visually enlarging the space and transmitting that halo of contemporaneity. On the first floor, in the most intimate part, reclaimed wood has been used, adding to the cozy and peaceful atmosphere.

XXL parquets, the latest in modern homes
XXL parquets have conquered interior designers and homeowners. It is as simple as extending the width and length of the wooden planks, reducing the number of joints, and creating more minimalist surfaces.
In Moskito Parquets we have made a strong commitment to this type of flooring, and we offer both pieces of 4 meters long and 300 mm wide, as well as parquets of 100mm and variable length.

The grain and imperfections of the reclaimed wood add personality to the room.
Recovered parquets, authentic pieces of art
Wood from American barns, caves, farmhouses, or railway beams that marked an era and now, at Moskito, we transform them for your home. Marked by the passage of time and with the help of expert hands, we achieve a unique parquet and almost a piece of art.
Reclaimed wood brings a unique personality to each project and becomes the true protagonist of the decoration. Ideal for rustic houses or environments where we want to add extra warmth: bedrooms, living rooms, reading corners, etc.
The range of aged products is very wide. You can find aged parquet in walnut, elm, fir or in colors such as white, red, green, and even blue. The combinations and finishes are endless when it comes to unique products made from existing wood strips.
Environmentally certified parquets

Aware of the need to manage forests in a sustainable way, at Moskito Parquets we carefully choose our suppliers, ensuring that they are concerned about adopting good corporate social responsibility practices. All our parquets come from woods that have forest certificates such as FSC or PEFC.

In addition, some of the parquets we offer are Cradle to Cradle® certified, which means that they have considered three global challenges: toxicity in materials, climate change and resource scarcity. Choosing materials with this certificate is a commitment to sustainability and the future of our planet.
You can visit us at Moskito Barcelona to see the different types and finishes of parquets in our permanent exhibition in Barcelona, at Església 4-10, Barcelona.
